Families Belong Together | Kentuckians For The Commonwealth

Families Belong Together

What is happening now at the U.S. border – ripping families apart and incarcerating children in warehouses and cages – is immoral and deeply damaging to those families, to global human rights, and to our own souls. It goes against every value we hold as Kentuckians.

We must rise together to end this horror. And we must call on the Kentucky Congressional delegation – and especially Senator Mitch McConnell, the leader of the senate – to use their considerable power to end this horror.

Take Action

  • Contact Senator McConnell, Senator Rand Paul, and your representative. Find contact information for Sen. McConnell and the Kentucky Congressional delegation here or use the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121.

  • Visit their offices. On Father’s Day, several KFTC members and Mama's Hip families went to McConnell’s house in Louisville with a call to action for Sen. McConnell to use his considerable power to keep families together, and to invite Kentuckians to support organizations working for immigrants’ rights. Since then, several other visits have been planned to Sen. McConnell’s offices. Gather a crew, plan your own visit, and livestream it! Use the hashtag #FamiliesBelongTogether, and let us know what you’re planning and if you’d like KFTC to boost your visit.

  • Join Saturday’s Families Belong Together Rally in Lexington.

  • March in Washington on June 30, or join a local marches in support. You can find more information here.

  • Support organizations working for immigrants’ rights, here in Kentucky and along the border. Here are some:

Let your Congresspeople know how you feel

Several folks are already planning visits to the offices of Kentucky’s members of Congress. Feel free to join in, or organize your own!

  • Visit Senator McConnell’s London office Monday, June 25 at 2:00. East Kentucky KFTC members tried to talk with Sen. McConnell’s staff earlier today, so send along a message to Senator McConnell. A federal officer blocked them from entering the office, and asked them to step outside to call to make an appointment to talk with Sen. McConnell’s staff. They now have an appointment for Monday, June 25 at 2 p.m. Join in! We’re told that only three people will be allowed to enter at a time. (Sound familiar?) But no worries, there’s good shade outside, and everyone present should be able to participate. The address is 300 South Main, Suite 310, London. Contact [email protected] for more information. (You can see the footage from today’s action on KFTC’s facebook page, here and here.)

  • Visit Sen. McConnell’s Lexington office, Thursday, June 21 at 4:30 p.m. We’ll meet at the Beaumont Library at 4:00, then caravan over to Sen. McConnell’s office at 771 Corporate Drive, Suite 108. We’re bringing our families and lots of artwork from local children that speaks to why families are important, and we hope to remind the Senator that families belong together. Contact [email protected] for more information.

  • Visit Hal Rogers’ Perry County office on Tuesday, June 26. The address is 48 South  Hwy 15, Hazard, KY. Contact [email protected] for more information.

Thank you for taking action!
