Chapter: Southern Kentucky

The Southern Kentucky chapter is a diverse and active group of people working to build a better future for all. We aim to hold our elected officials accountable as we create a more just, healthy, and sustainable community. Among the many issues we care about, our chapter is currently working on fair housing, tax justice, fairness, voter empowerment, and clean, safe, and affordable energy options.

Working together we are building the movement for economic, environmental and social justince in southern Kentucky! Please join us at an upcoming chpater meeting or event. We meet every fourth Tuesday, 6:30 - 8:00 pm CDT. RSVP for one of our monthly meetings here.

SOKY chapter creates People’s Guide to Planning

From protecting natural resources to building apartment complexes, decisions about our communities and day to day lives happen through local planning and zoning. We see the impacts of these decisions when Black neighborhoods face displacement, when gentrification pushes the working class out of affordable housing, and when pollution in our air and water hurts our bodies. While planning processes are designed to shape the future of Kentucky cities, planning and zoning are often difficult for the public to offer input into and to navigate.

You’ve made an impact during the 2021 General Assembly. Some of these impacts have been on legislation – a key meeting with a legislator that changes the course of a bill, or a push of calls and tweets that makes the will of the people more visible and harder to ignore. We also set a goal this session to continue to build the power we need. So many impacts have been in our own communities, talking with neighbors and networks about the bills that impact us, and the work of our legislators.
