William Barber and Liz Theoharis in Lexington, KY on November 2 at 7 pm, as we hold a Poor People's Hearing to lift up the voices of the poor, directly impacted, and faith leaders. We are inviting all state elected officials and candidates for office from across the state and statewide races to hear the testimony of those they are hoping to represent. In this electoral season, politicians will not speak at us, they will listen to us--to those who have been traditionally left out of the electoral process in this country. They will learn about the power of a new and unsettling force that is organizing across this country, and they will hear our demands and vision for a better Kentucky! 

Too often the issues that impact our lives are left out of the conversation during these election cycles, issues like the 46% of Kentuckians who are poor or low-income and the third of Kentuckians at risk for being unable to afford water; the disproportionate number of Black residents incarcerated at over three times that of white residents; the attacks on immigrants; the poisoning of our water, and destruction of our communities and family homes from mountaintop removal coal mining; the criminalization of our youth; the amount of money spent on endless wars while children go to bed hungry or elderly have to choose between rent, food, or medicine;the low wages of workers, and the loss of benefits to our teacher and other public servants; to name a few.

We will not let another election cycle go by where politicians can run for office without talking about systemic racism, including voter suppression, the attacks on immigrant and native communities, and the mass criminalization and incarceration of our communities; without talking about systemic poverty and the necessity of living wages and housing for all; without talking about the war economy and ecological devastation that are blighting our people and the places we live; without talking about the distorted moral narrative that ignores the needs of the people.
