Walk Your Block
This spring the Jefferson County Chapter of KFTC launched Walk Your Block, a walkability study focused on assessing the infrastructure, sidewalks conditions, and vacant and abandoned properties in Smoketown. KFTC hopes to use the results of this study to work with neighbors, community partners, and city officials to improve accessibility, safety, and housing conditions in Smoketown. This is a continuation of KFTC's Vision Smoketown work, which started in the summer of 2013.
Thanks to the efforts of several volunteers we were able to assess several blocks in Smoketown but we still have a lot of ground to cover, including assessing street lighting conditions on foot and on bicycles after sunset. We are hosting an evening Walk Your Block session on Wednesday, June 10 from 7:30pm to 10:30pm at the KFTC office, 735 Lampton Street, Louisville. Training, support, and materials will be provided.
