State level estimates of felon disenfranchisement, 2010 data

This report from the Sentencing Project provides state-by-state data about how many individuals have lost the right to vote due to a crazy-quilt pattern of laws that bar people convicted of a felony from voting. Kentucky is one of three states that bars more than 20% of voting age African Americans from voting. A total of 243,842 Kentuckians have lost the right to vote.

National Rivers and Streams Assessment, 2008-09

A new report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency gauges the overall health of our rives and streams. It found that 55% of the nation’s river and stream miles do not support healthy populations of aquatic life, with phosphorus and nitrogen pollution and poor habitat the most widespread problems. Conditions are even worse in the southern Appalachian region, with 64% of streams and rivers in poor condition.

National Survey Results: Bipartisan Majority of Americans Want Clean Energy

A national survey conducted in March 2012 shows overwhelming and bipartisan support for clean energy policies that go far beyond what is currently in place, especially in Kentucky. More than 80 percent of the 1,019 people asked agreed with the statement: “The time is now for a new, grassroots-driven politics to realize a renewable energy future.”
