Barn Dance Success

This past Saturday, northern Kentucky members held a Barn Dance in historic Rabbit Hash. Members Dinah Devoto, Patrick Kennedy and Terrie Marksberry did most of the planning, including reserving the space and recruiting a line-up of talented local musicians.

Jefferson County Birthday Bash

Social justice, democracy, and rock n' roll.

That's how the Kentuckians of Jefferson County kicked-off their 30th anniversary celebration on Saturday, June 22, 2013.

In the heart of Butchertown – down the block from the former Jefferson County chapter office – the Tim Faulkner Gallery hosted the Birthday Bash, which featured music from a variety of local artists including Leigh Ann Yost and The Blacktop Farmers.

Wilderness Trace hosts successful Barn Bash

Wilderness Trace 2013 Barn Bash

Lots of good planning and plenty of hard work culminated into a highly successful and fun first-annual Barn Bash for the Wilderness Trace KFTC chapter. On Saturday, June 22, nearly 80 people, including members and new friends, gathered at Woodwind Farm in Junction City for an afternoon of good music, good food, and good company, all in an effort to raise money and raise awareness about KFTC’s work.

Lee Ann Paynter, one of the members who helped found the chapter, spoke to the crowd about why she joined KFTC and cares about our work. “When I was moving from California back to Kentucky, I decided I wanted to do something good for the state. After I got online and learned about KFTC, I joined and became a sustaining giver sight unseen because I felt what they were doing was that important.” She then encouraged everyone to be sure to join before they left.

Jefferson County Annual Chapter Meeting

Twenty-five members came out to this week’s Jefferson County Annual Chapter Meeting and potluck at First Unitarian Church. The meeting started off with a review of the chapter’s work over the past year:

  • Our chapter registered 1,400 people to vote during the 2012 Election and transported dozens of people to the polls in November.
  • We recruited 24 new members during the 5th Annual Louisville Loves Mountains Festival in May 2013.
  • Chapter members attended all the major lobby days in Frankfort during the 2013 General Assembly and turned out busloads of people to I Love Mountains Day.
  • We have tabled at 6 community events in Louisville since the beginning of the year. Hundreds of people have signed KFTC petitions and interest forms during these events.
  • Members have given presentations about KFTC’s work at two colleges and two churches since January.
  • Our chapter celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. We are kicking off the celebration with a Birthday Bash on Saturday, June 22nd at Tim Faulkner Gallery.
