Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, in partnership with H.E.A.L Together, are holding an Education Policy press conference at Petersburg Park in Louisville, KY on Wednesday August 23 at 4:30pm.
Kentuckians for the Commonwealth believes that all families deserve opportunities to thrive, learn, engage and have pathways to a brighter future and that healthier public schools equal healthier communities. This Wednesday we will be holding a press conference to discuss current and new education policy changes, focusing on direct comments from current students, educators, and parents.
Throughout the Listening Workshops hosted thus far, students, parents, and educators are finding common themes in visioning what education policy that works for all Kentuckians could look like. Ebony O’Rea, KFTC member and parent to JCPS students will talk about the broader implications of proactive education policy. KFTC member and parent, Chanelle Helm, will frame the discussion around people power, setting the stage for students to share their experiences and thoughts on education policies in Kentucky.
This conference is being held in partnership with H.E.A.L. an initiative at Race Forward, working to build a movement of students, educators, and parents in school districts across the United States who believe that an honest, accurate and fully funded public education is the foundation for a just, multiracial democracy.
This conference is part of a larger cooperative campaign KFTC + H.E.A.L. have launched, which is a statewide campaign focusing from The Hood to the Holler to identify priorities that we can address as a community. We invite students, families, educators, leaders and supporters to lift their voices, their stories - to help shape what WE believe are the challenges that WE need to prioritize at the appropriate level of decision making. In order to have a healthy democracy, WE have to SPEAK OUT.
