Fewer coal companies obeying the law

A report from the U.S. Office of Surface Mining shows that coal industry compliance with surface mining laws dropped significantly in 2010 from previous years.


OSM surveyed 325 mine sites, chosen at random, and found that only 65 percent were in full compliance with the law. That's a drop from 87 percent in OSM's previous survey, in 2007-08.
