Filing dealine to run for office in 2 weeks... unless it isn't.
Tuesday, January 31st at 4pm is the deadline to file nomination papers for candidates who must run in primary (largely, people running as a Democrat or Republican for most races).
Note that this deadline assumes a smooth and quick process by the state legislature to settle on redistricting. There is a proposed map of US Representative seats and a proposed map of the Kentucky House districts, but the Kentucky Senate doesn't even have a public draft yet, and a lot of other pieces are up in the air.
And it's challenging to file to run for public office when you don't know the shape of the district that you're in.
If they can't make a plan soon, the legislature is considering pushing back the filing deadline or keeping the district borders as-is for the current election. There's even an outside chance that Congressional candidates will be asked to run as statewide candidates as they did in 1931, but this is extremely unlikely.
In any event, KFTC encourages its members to run for public office and/or help others to run.
And when in doubt, please go ahead and file to run as soon as possible, even though there's a fair share of uncertainty on the horizon.
