Happy Pi(e) Day! Celebrate with us next week in Berea
Happy Pi(e) Day to all! For those who don't remember from their school days, Pi is a math term that has an infinite number of digits, but is approximately 3.14, so March 14 is known as Pi Day. There are plenty of ways to celebrate, but many festivities involve eating delicious pie, and that's just what the Madison County KFTC chapter will do next week when it holds its annual Pie Auction event in Berea.
For a few years now, the Madison County chapter has held an annual Pie Auction to raise funds not only for KFTC, but for another organization local members believe in and choose to support. Past events have raised money for RAMPS (Radical Action for Mountain People's Survival) and Black Mesa Water Coalition. This year, members have chosen to share proceeds from the Pie Auction with WV Clean Water Hub, a group that has been working to supply clean water to people in West Virginia who've been impacted by chemical spills this winter.
This year's event will be held on Friday, March 21, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the basement of Union Church (200 Prospect Street, Berea). We'll ask for a small donation for admission, $5 for adults, $3 for students, but no one will be turned away. Admission is free when you bring a homemade pie for the auction. The live auction will start at about 8 p.m., so be sure to come before then if you're bringing pie. Two ceramic pie plates made and donated by Turning Wheel Pottery will also be a part of the auction.
The Down Home Divas (KFTC members Ethan Hamblin and Sam Gleaves) will provide us with great music and stories, and Kent Gilbert will be our lively auctioneer.
