Jefferson County Secret Cafe

Louisville is a culinary city. We were voted the fourth foodiest small town (well city with a small town feel) by Bon Appetit due to our great local food culture and we house two culinary schools and tons of local restaurants. It's only natural with so many members in Jefferson County and a great local food movement, we'd have some foodies in our membership.

Three weeks ago Jefferson County members Summer Auerbach, Brandon Coan, and Jon Soloman came together  and decided they'd raise money for KFTC. Summer had hosted a house party for KFTC every year since 2009. Since her network was pretty informed about our great work, they decided to try a different take at a KFTC house party.  So, on a quiet Thursday night while most of Louisville sat home anticipating the weekend, Summer Auerbach's house was bustling. The stove was sizzling, delicious smells were wafting everywhere, and lively jovial chatter echoed through the kitchen.

This dynamic trio decided to run a secret cafe. There are many versions of secret cafes. Some cities, people swarm twitter, facebook, and foodie blogs to find the next new culinary adventure popping up in town. Sometimes you are invited by friends or family. The basic idea is to have a restaurant in your house for the evening. Many cafes fund themselves by charging a flat fee for attending. In this cafe, it was money well spent. It went to help Kentuckians For The Commonwealth and all the amazing work you do.

The event was a big hit. Food was generously donated by Fox Hollow Farms and Rainbow Blossom Foods. Sustainable flowers to decorate tables were donated by member Stephanie Lindsay, The Green Lady. Chefs and members Timothy Tucker, Coby Ming, and Star Auerbach donated their services to prepare an amazing meal. Additional members and friends assisted with prep, serving, and cleaning.  Folks chatted and connected with a common cause in their heart.

Summer and Brandon delivered great pitches for I Love Mountains Day and the work that KFTC does. Brandon Coan emphasized that we were in a moment; "the time was now, Let's FIX KENTUCKY!" Folks responded with enthusiastic applause. There's nothing like a good meal to bring a community together, and there's nothing like a KFTC community.

Overall, $1200.00 was raised for KFTC.
