KFTC Action Alert - Protect Robinson Forest!
*Updated on 12/10/07
NOTE: The UK Board of Trustees Meeting has been moved up from 1pm tomorrow (Tuesday) to 10am on account of the Governor’s Inauguration Ceremony. This means that the Tuesday Rally for Robinson Forest will also be moved up to 9:30am.
Robinson Forest was left in trust to the University of Kentucky 85 years ago "for the betterment of the people of the mountain regions of Eastern Kentucky," but today it is in serious danger. Located in Perry, Breathitt, and Knott counties, this gem of a forest has two cleanest watersheds in Kentucky and is a learning environment for over 1,000 students a year from a wide range of academic disciplines. UK is moving to cut a large percentage of the forest as part of a study, which might also weaken the basis of a "lands unsuitable for mining" status that protects much of the rest of the forest.
Kentuckians For The Commonwealth, along with allies at UK Greenthumb, Kentucky Heartwood, Sierra Club, and other organizations have been fighting this deforestation and we need your help in the next seven days to put pressure on the UK Board of Trustees.
UK administrators periodically move to strip mine and/or cut parts of Robinson Forest, and we want to send a clear message to the University from students, alumni, citizens of Eastern Kentucky communities near the forest, and others that this is not the smart, responsible, or sustainable purpose the forest should be used for.

Join us for our public Rally at UK.
Rally For Robinson Forest - Tuesday December 11th, at 9:30am at Patterson Office Tower Plaza on the University of Kentucky’s campus (right next to Patterson Office Tower). The focus of this rally is to show opposition to the cutting of parts of Robinson Forest prior to the Board of Trustees meeting in which a vote is likely to take place. The Board of Trustees meet at 10am on the 18th floor of the Patterson Office tower, and members are encouraged to attend and be a visual show of opposition in the crowd during the proceedings.
