KFTC Members VOTE - Even in Primaries
There have been some gloomy predictions on voter turnout for the Primary Election around the corner on Tuesday May 17th. The Secretary of State's office predicts a voter turnout somewhere between 9% and 10%, which seems like something substantially short of a Democracy.
We've been crunching some numbers based on voter files and have found that an average of 73% of KFTC members who are eligible vote in any given Primary Election. This compares to a 25% average turnout amongst eligible Kentuckians as a whole.
We chose to study numbers from 2010 and 2008 because they're the two most recent primaries and 2007 and 2003 because they're similar elections (focusing on the Governor's race and 5 other constitutional offices).
KFTC Members really do seem to be some of the strongest "super voters" in the state.
Based on the numbers, we can estimate that KFTC members might make up as much as 2% of the entire voting population in the Primary, which doesn't count other friends that we're reaching through phone banks, web, mailings, voter guides, or even informal contacts with our 7,000 members across the state.
In short, KFTC members have the power to make a huge impact on this election through their actions and through voting.
Please take the time you have left before Tuesday to talk to friends about the election, point people towards our election website at www.KentuckyElection.org, and do anything else you can to make a difference.
