KFTC spreads message at Madison County energy expo

Madison County chapter members had great conversations around energy with dozens of local residents at the Madison County Energy Expo in Richmond this past Saturday. 

They gathered more than 70 petition signatures to stop mountain-top removal mining and even signed up a new member. 

In addition to educating folks about mountain-top removal coal mining, they also talked about efforts to encourage East Kentucky Power Cooperative to abandon plans to build a new coal-fire power plant and look towards clean, renewable energy options.

This was the first-annual energy expo for Madison County.  It had 34 different vendors – a mix of for-profit vendors and non-profit environmental organizations.  It was organized by the University of Kentucky cooperative extension office for Madison County.  The chapter was excited to tap into all of the local interest around energy.

The chapter plans to follow-up with everyone who signed the petition inviting them to the chapter meeting and sharing with them other local ways to get involved.
