Letcher County Operation Voter Madness Report
For the past two days, we got out and went door-to-door in Whitesburg's business areas, visiting over 30 businesses and talking to employees and customers about registering to vote.
We also stood outside two different grocery stores for over three hours each, interacting with at least 300-400 people there. Many had already registered to vote and were supportive of seeing me with my clipboard on the streets.
We were able to register a handful of people including an elderly miner still in his stripes at the second grocery store. He was pulling an oxygen tank behind him, and he and his daughter couldn't have been any sweeter to me. It really gave me a boost of confidence and hope for the work we do!
Another really positive encounter was an employee at the Rite Aid. She registered to vote and as she filled out the card she expressed some concerns about the community and changes she would like to see. I told her that she should come to our next KFTC meeting since it is member-led and is full of other concerned citizens who would like to see improvements too. She was excited to hear about us and gave me her email. We'll be sending her info about us and let her know about our chapter meeting Tuesday.
