Louisville TimeBank: Strengthening Community through Time-Based Collaboration
In a bid to foster a stronger sense of community and interconnectedness, the Louisville TimeBank has forged a unique partnership with KFTC. At the heart of this collaboration lies the concept of timebanking. Unlike traditional currencies, timebanking operates on the principle that every member's time is valued equally, irrespective of the task or skill. Members earn and spend "time dollars" by contributing their skills, services, and assistance to others. For instance, helping someone with gardening for an hour could earn you a "time dollar," which you can then use to receive an hour of help from another member in an area where you might need assistance, like tutoring or handyman work.

What makes this partnership particularly noteworthy is the integration of timebanking with KFTC events. Members of the Louisville TimeBank have the opportunity to earn "time dollars" by participating in KFTC gatherings and activities. This approach not only encourages active community involvement but also acknowledges the diverse skills and contributions each individual brings to the table. This collaboration is also finding a physical presence at the KFTC. Their building is serving as a convenient and familiar location for the TimeBank's monthly potlucks/ member meetings.
In a world that often values financial transactions, the Louisville TimeBank stands as a beacon of a new kind of economy—one where time, skills, and relationships take precedence over money. The timebank is free to join. You can do this through the website at LouisvilleTimebank.org or come to a potluck meeting.
Thank you.
