Madison County gears up for Friend-Raiser
The forecast is looking superb for the annual Madison County KFTC Friend-Raiser set for tomorrow, Saturday, September 14, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at HomeGrown Hideaways (500 Floyd Branch Rd., Berea). This free, family-friendly event will feature live music from Carla Gover, tasty food, a great silent auction, and an evening of good fun all to celebrate and support KFTC’s work. The Friend-Raiser has been the main fundraising event for the Madison County chapter in years past, and members have been working hard to make sure this year is as great as ever.
Members on the planning workteam have done a great job in soliciting donations for the silent auction from artists, business-owners, and members alike. Friend-Raiser attendees will be able to bid on everything from artwork to meals at local restuatants to tickets to an Irish Symphony Orchstra concert!
One standout item in this year’s auction is a solar panel from the Berea Solar Farm. Through the Solar Farm, the Berea Municipal Utilities (BMU) provides those who want to invest in local solar generation an opportunity to do so. Ordinarily a one-time lease fee of $750 per panel covers a 25-year period. In return, customers receive credit every billing period for 25 years for the electricity generated by the panels they have leased. In this way, participating customers gain access to solar generation at an excellent price.
KFTC member Steve Boyce, who helped bring the solar panel to the silent auction, explained that the winning bidder will receive credit every billing period for 25 years for the electricity their panel generates. “Only the price could be even better depending on how the auction goes!” said Boyce.
We’re asking able attendees to bring a dish to share, a lawn-chair, and a donated item for the silent auction. But if you can’t do that, be sure to still come along and bring a few friends! You can find directions to HomeGrown Hideaways here.

Carey Henson, a member of the event planning committee, added, “I look forward to the Friend-Raiser every year to connect with old friends, meet new ones, and get more involved with KFTC. It's in a beautiful setting, with great food, music, and lots of fun.”
