Northern Kentucky Reaches Voter Registration Goal!

Picture 026

Since around the end of August the members of Kentuckians for the Commonwealth's newest chapter have been registering voters wherever they can. Be it on Northern Kentucky University's campus,  the regular appearances at the public libraries,, working in the neighborhoods on the Community Block Party, or at farmers markets.

As everyone has heard, KFTC is seeking to contact 50,000 voters prior to the election. The Northern Kentucky chapter, as it's part in the efforts, set a goal of reaching 350 voters before the voter registration deadline, and an additional 350 between the voter registration deadline and the election. With over two weeks left before the voter registration effort, the Northern Kentucky chapter has already reached their new voter goal!

Over 140 people registered to vote at the libraries, roughly 100 people either signed petitions to help stop mountain top removal or joined KFTC at the recent Whispering Beard festival, and they have reached the other 100 through tabling events at the farmer's markets, college campuses, and community group meetings.

The Northern Kentucky chapter, which early in the year was not sure what impact they could have in empowering the voters in the community, has already exceeded it's own expectations in empowering the voters in their community. On top of the over 200 newly registered voters, they have helped 50 additional citizens start the process of getting their civil rights restored.

This chapter has continued to pleasantly surprise observers, and let us hope that they'll even surprise themselves by what they accomplish during the rest of the year!
