Premiere of social justice film series! | Kentuckians For The Commonwealth

Premiere of social justice film series!

Last night was the premiere of the central KY chapter's social justice film series. We kicked it off with Democracy's Ghosts, a film that explores the history of the disenfranchisement of felons in the United States and how their inability to vote affects our communities and our democracy.

We had a really great time. Most folks had never seen the film and for several people this was their first introduction to the issue. Afterward we had a discussion about ways to get involved in the movement to restore voting rights to former felons, including hosting screenings of the film with your church or neighborhood association and volunteering with Kentuckians for the Commonwealth. Several folks volunteered to join us over the next few weeks as we call 50,000 voters to mobilize them to the polls.

If you missed this one, then don't worry! This is going to be a monthly occurrence in central Kentucky. Our next screening will be on Thursday November 9th at 7:30 in 230 of the Oswald building of Bluegrass community and technical college (main campus). We will be showing the Celluloid Closet which is a documentary on how the LGBT community has been portrayed in the media. We will be joined by Lexington Fairness for a discussion afterward.
