Reflections from a first-time phone banker
In Louisville, we've been having a blast making Get Out The Vote calls to our members and to people we’ve registered to vote this year. Thanks to our amazing volunteer members, to date, we have made 1494 calls! The main purpose of these calls is to make sure people know where to vote and have a way to get to their polling place. Calling these folks has been immensely rewarding as many of the people we have reached had no idea where to vote, and we were eager to provide them that information.
Making these calls might seem a little scary to people at first, but take it from first-time KFTC phonebanker Chris Hale, calling folks is easy and exciting to do!
“I phonebanked because I wanted to follow-up on the work we did to get people registered,” said Chris, who first volunteered with KFTC during Voter Madness, registering voters in the Portland and Shively neighborhoods.
"This experience has been invigorating. I feel like I’m making a difference when I actually reach out to people, to start a conversation, because that’s where change begins. I want to be a part of what KFTC is doing because our goals really are important for everyone who lives in the state.
"Calling people is very simple. It’s not like telemarketing. It’s just reaching out to people to make a connection and to make sure their voices are heard. It’s a great opportunity to get other people involved."
Election Day is NEXT Tuesday, and we still have a lot of calls to make. Take that step like Chris and come on out to a phonebank at the Jefferson County KFTC office at 901 Franklin St. If you have any questions, please call us at 502-589-3188. We can’t wait to see you.
