Scott County KFTC Update
The Scott County KFTC chapter has been hard at work lately on a range of different campaigns and work areas. Here's a quick rundown of recent actions and upcoming events.
- Earlier today, we had an hour-long presentation on Mountaintop Removal Mining at First Christian Church. We made some new friends in the community and recruited 4 new KFTC members and built some connections with 30 more.
- Our voter registration efforts on campus last week were successful and we're looking forward to scheduling more registration days.
- We're still following up on the â€I Scream "Social Justice!â€â€ Ice Cream Social last month, which brought in some new members and generated some good discussion about some of our key issues, including tax justice and mountain-top removal. We aim to organize a similar event in mid-summer next year.
- The Chapter-initiated campaign for curbside recycling in Georgetown is beginning to pick up steam. Several members participated in the first meeting of the City-sponsored Recycling Committee late last month. Subsequent meetings were set for September 8 and September 22. Amy Cloud represented KFTC at the September 7 meeting, and we're hoping to get others out this week on the 21st.
