Shawnee Neighborhood Voter Work Report
One of the events we have tabled in the past couple of weeks was at the Shawnee Neighborhood Festival. The event was put on by the Shawnee Neighborhood Association. It was a great event for the surrounding community. There were games for children, food and the opening of a new Healthy in a Hurry Market, which increases accessibility to fresh produce by selling it at local corner stores.
KFTC is not really known in the Shawnee neighborhood, so opportunities like this are good to start building relationships. We did some voter registration and talked to folks about restoration of voting rights. People seemed to be responsive to the information on voting rights and I had a number of people take some applications either for themselves or friends and family. There was one woman who seemed really interested in the issue and even brought over a couple of people to the table to have them fill out postcards.
We hope there will be more opportunities to connected with the Shawnee community in the future.
