Show Up For Fairness in Georgetown

On Monday allies are expecting people to come out in support of Fairness in Georgetown, and are looking for people to come and share why we need a non-discrimination ordinance here. After having relatively quiet council meetings in February, where members of the community shared their passionate pleas for the need for this expanded human rights ordinance, there are rumors that there may be folks arriving to oppose the ordinance this week.

The Scott County chapter has been active in the work to move this forward, and we are looking for folks to attend the meeting. Allies are encouraging to not wear signs, but to wear either a Fairness shirt, a Georgetown Fairness shirt, or a button supporting fairness. The hearing will start at 6 pm, is in the City Council Chambers at Georgetown City Hall (100 N. Court Street in Georgetown), and we are encouraging folks to attend early. Especially if you wish to speak.

We have made incredible progress, but we could use your help in moving this forward. If you can't attend, contact City Council (including thankingthe Mayor and Council Member Lusby for leading on this issue) to ask them to pass this ordinance; regardless, make sure you have already signed and shared the petition in support of fairness. Together, we will show them that Y'all means ALL to Georgetown residents.
