Super Sunday in Lexington
On the heels of the Pushback Conference in Louisville this past weekend, Central KY KFTC members made it back to Lexington just in time to launch a large voter registration effort at Super Sunday - a North Lexington, African-American community fair.
Another focus of the tabling effort was to get people to sign petitions to restore voting rights to former felons who have served their debt to society - a problem that disproportionately effects African-American and low-income communities in our Commonwealth.
Former Lexington Mayor Teresa Isaac, sat at our table and recruited voters along-side other KFTC members for almost 2 hours. Just as impressively, Tayna Fogle participated, relentlessly pulling in dozens of people she knew and talking to them about KFTC and Restoration like no one else can.
Although rain cut the event short for us, the eight KFTC members who participated managed to register several dozen voters and get over 100 people to sign petitions to restore voting rights to former felons. They also recruited 4 new KFTC members as part of a conscious and ongoing effort to expand our grassroots power throughout the state and succeeded in increasing our visibility in a key community.
