Voter Empowerment update from Perry and Letcher counties
As the election nears, KFTC members in the Perry and Letcher chapters have been tabling at local fall festivals to register voters. KFTC had a booth at the Hazard Black Gold Festival again this year and registered 25 voters over 2 days. Perry County Steering Committee Representative Katie Pirotina and Knott County member Fern Nafziger helped staff the table during Black Gold, enjoying the parade that passed right in front of our tables while we registered voters from throughout many eastern Kentucky counties.
KFTC also had a booth at the Mountain Heritage Festival in Whitesburg for four days this past week. Though nearly every person who passed the table told us that they were already registered and planning to vote next month, we still managed to update many voters addresses and register 35 new voters. We also had a great time sitting on main street talking to people about the importance of voting.
The eastern Kentucky voter registration effort will be at the Swappin' Meetin' Festival this weekend in Cumberland and is planning a Singing for Democracy event in Hazard later in October! Email [email protected] or call 606-632-0051 for more information about either event.
