We Are One Block Party is moved for weather
Due to weather tonight's "We Are One Block Party" in Louisville has been moved from Jefferson Square Park to Kentucky International Convention Center (221 So 4th St), Room #1AB. Now you can stay dry while you have fun, honor Dr. King, and show solidarity with public workers!
More about the block party, from Jobs with Justice:
On April 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, where he had gone to stand with sanitation workers demanding their dream: The right to bargain collectively for a voice at work and a better life. The workers were trying to form a union with AFSCME.
On April 4, 2011, AFSCME Council 62, IUE/CWA, Firefighters Local 345, AFSCME Local 2629, United Steel Workers, AFL-CIO, Teamsters Local 789, Greater Louisville Central Labor Council and Kentucky Jobs with Justice are hosting a "Block Party with Public Workers!" in partnership with other labor unions, people of faith, civil and human rights activists, students and other progressive allies.
Join us in solidarity with working people in Kentucky, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana and dozens of other states as we call on our elected officials to respect the rights for which Dr. King gave his life: the freedom to bargain, to vote, to afford a college education and justice for all workers! It’s a day to show movement. A day to be creative and clear: WE ARE ONE.
"I am convinced that if we are to get on the right side of the world revolution, we as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values. We must rapidly begin the shift from a thing-oriented society to a person-oriented society. When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights, are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, extreme materialism and militarism are incapable of being conquered." ~Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
