UK Voting Rights Forum | Kentuckians For The Commonwealth

UK Voting Rights Forum

viewerIn Kentucky, felons lose their voting rights forever. The only way these felons can have their voting rights restored is if they get a pardon straight from the governor, a rather unreliable process. In only three other states (Virginia, Florida, and Iowa) are former felons disfranchised. 243,000 Kentuckians cannot vote in because of this impediment. Furthermore, this affects lower-income communities and Black communities disproportionately.  More than 1 in 5 voting age Black Americans cannot vote in Kentucky.

UK KFTC and UK NAACP will be hosting an event on the issue of disenfranchisement of former felons in Kentucky on November 7th on 7:00-8:30pm in RM. 249 of the Student Center. Join as we explore the issue of former felon voting rights from the perspective of an former felon and Professor Jakobi Williams. A Q&A will be conducted afterward. Free refreshments will be provided!

A flyer for the event is attached. If you have any questions, feel free to email [email protected]
