HB 70 Passes House - Now we need to put pressure on the Senate!
Earlier today, the KY House of Representatives heard HB 70, our bill to restore voting rights to former felons who have served their debt to society, on the House floor.
They passed the bill overwhelmingly, 77 to 21.
Now, HB 70 proceeds to the Senate, where we expect it to be assigned to Senator Damon Thayer's State and Local Government Committee. In the past, Thayer has refused to allow the bill to be debated or to come to a vote.
Please call the the toll-free Legislative Message Line at 1-800-372-7181 and leave a message for your senator, plus "Senate Leadership" and "members of the Senate State and Local Government."
The Message line is open 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. Monday-Thursday and until 6 p.m. on Friday.
You can also make an impact on this bill by contacting Senator Thayer by mail, through Facebook, and in-person in Frankfort, asking him to allow the bill to be heard.
And finally, we'll have out big Restoration of Voting Rights Lobby Day and Rally at the Capitol in Frankfort on Thursday, Feb 24th from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come join us!
