Members testify about the need for vision and common sense
Scott County member Homer White and Jason Bailey from the Kentucky Center for Economic Policy were rock stars in today's Senate State and Local Government Committee meeting, which held a hearing on SCR 134, a resolution by Sen. David Williams to urge Congress to call an Article V convention to propose an amendment to the U.S Constitution to require a balanced federal budget.
KFTC has no position on this resolution because it’s not the debate that we feel is necessary. The real set of questions, the questions that Kentuckians are asking and that Homer called on the committee to focus on, are how we create a commonwealth and a nation that reflects our shared values and priorities.
Sen. Rand Paul came down in support of the bill and to tout his own budget proposal, which is even worse than the U.S. House Republican budget, slashing $500 billion from the federal budget.
We'll add photos and links later and taped pieces of Homer's excellent testimony, as well as the contributions from other members and allies. It was great that we were there. In the meantime, check out the photo of our members and their signs from this Herald-Leader article!
