Opinions Stacking up in Favor of HB 70

There have been a few notable op-eds in favor of HB 70, our Voting Rights bill, in the last few days from leaders of the religious community and law enforcement community.

Carl Wicklund, Executive Director of the American Probation and Parole Association, wrote an Op-ed in the Cumberland County News (the hometown newspaper of Senate President David Williams).  The story isn't online, but you can access a PDF of it here.

Rev. H. David Schuringa, President of the Crossroad Bible Institute, published this op-ed on the Brennan Center for Justice's website today.  Click here to read the full article.

"I support H.B. 70 because Scriptures enjoin us to "be a voice for the voiceless" and to "speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves" (Prov. 31:8-9). These Scriptures are held sacred by Christians, Jews, and Muslims. What better way to be a voice for the voiceless than to give them a voice? Moreover, like Moses and David from these traditions, I know that people can be redeemed. Redemption is a universal concept that resonates across all religions. Yet for redemption to impact the nation, people must be restored to their communities, and full restoration requires an opportunity to vote."        - Rev H. David Schuringa

And finally, Ashbel T. Wall II, Director of the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, published this op-ed in support of HB 70, also on the blog of the Brennan Center for Justice.  Click here to read the full article.

If you think it would be valuable for *your* Senator to hear these words please consider copying an op-ed and sending it to them.  You can find contact information for them online here
