Rallies for Climate, Care, Jobs and Justice on August 19 | Kentuckians For The Commonwealth

Rallies for Climate, Care, Jobs and Justice on August 19

Rallies for Climate, Care, Jobs, and Justice on August 19th

When disaster strikes, Kentuckians pull together and care for one another. Then we do the hard work of healing, rebuilding, and working to prevent future harm. And in 2021, when the disasters we face are massive, multiple, and overlapping, we’re organizing to win the transformative investments our communities need to thrive.

Join us on Thursday evening, August 19, at 5:30 pm at a rally or event near you for Climate, Care, Jobs, and Justice. (See below for details.)

Members of Kentuckians For The Commonwealth and our allies in the Kentucky Just Transition Coalition* know that the climate crisis - - which is now blinking code red - - is closely intertwined with racial and economic injustice, democracy under attack, and the raging pandemic. That’s why we are working together with national and state allies to push for a bold, transformative package of federal investments in climate, care, jobs, and justice.

Your voice is critical as we call on Congress to pass key elements of the THRIVE agenda and President Biden’s Build Back Better plan, including: a $1.2 trillion infrastructure plan, a $3.5 trillion investment in climate solutions and the care economy, and legislation to protect our elections and democracy.

Join us on Thursday evening, August 19, at a climate, care, jobs and justice rally or event near you, part of a nationwide day of action.

More information:

This year, Democrats in Congress have an opportunity to pass bold investments in climate and care without being blocked by Republicans. They can do so by using a process called “budget reconciliation.” Congressional Democrats have indicated their budget reconciliation package might be as large as $3.5T of investment, and includes substantial new investments in renewable energy, housing, health care, pre-K, two years of free community college, child tax credits, paid family and medical leave, and much more.

But Mitch McConnell and some Democrats are working hard to scale it back. We expect them to take special aim at the parts of proposed legislation dealing with climate change.

Now is the time to tell Rep. John Yarmuth, who represents Louisiville in Congress and serves as the chair of the House Budget Committee, we need him to fight for every dollar of investment in climate and people – with no cuts – and to protect specific, critical investments that address climate change.

As for the rest of Kentucky’s Representatives and Senators in Congress? Well, we have a message for them, too. Kentuckians deserve leaders who will work and deliver for us, leaders who are champions for good jobs, climate, care for people, and voting rights. We will continue to call out those who stir racist fears and spread disinformation while blocking the solutions we need to shape a brighter future for all Kentuckians.
