Register for KFTC's HB 127 Yard Sale, March 26 on the Capitol porch!

Come to KFTC's HB 127 Yard Sale at the Capitol, Monday, March 26, to support economic justice and a budget that moves Kentucky Forward!

begin 127

Kentuckians deserve a good quality of life. Affordable tuition. Water that we know is safe to drink. Good schools with reasonable class sizes and up-to-date textbooks that students can take home at night. Community health services that we can count on. This is the kind of Kentucky that we're working for, and tax reform that raises revenue fairly, like HB 127, can help us get there.

But Kentucky's elected leaders in the House and Senate are working on adopting a state budget that fails to raise the revenue we need to move Kentucky forward, choosing instead to enact the tenth round of budget cuts in the last four years.

Kentucky deserves better. KFTC is hosting a HB 127 Yard Sale at the Capitol

to show our support for tax reform. And we'll take a stab at raising some of the money that HB 127 would generate every year--$404 million.

Where and When?

We're meeting in the Capitol Annex Room 111 at 12:30. We'll get the items sorted out, put everyone in a group or booth, and do an orientation before we head out to our designated "booths." Come when you can!

What should I bring?

Bring anything. Small, packable items are best. Plan to take it back home with you. (We have a lot of money to raise, so we're be pricing things high. It'd be great if we could get the legislators to buy your old textbooks for $400,000, but...For all practical purposes, this is a mock yard sale.) Items that help us talk about the budget needs are especially good, though. Here are some ideas:

  • Plates or canned goods to raise money for Meals on Wheels.

  • Old books or encyclopedias to help raise money for libraries

  • Graduation caps, backpacks, college textbooks to raise money for college affordability.

  • Crayons, lunch boxes, kid backpacks, old instruments or tennis shoes for K-12 education and associated programs.

  • Water filters to raise money for monitoring the safety of our drinking water.

  • Crutches or bandages to raise money for public health.

  • Artwork (small) or musical instruments to raise money for the arts.

  • And your friends!

  • Also, we'll be outside, so bring whatever will keep you comfortable outside. We'll have chairs, tents, and tables.
Schedule for the day:

12:30-1:00 p.m. - Bring your items to the back porch of the Capitol Building, facing the Annex. (Feel free to label them with you name to avoid any mix-ups.)

(The cafeteria closes at 1:30. Two snack stores will stay open, or you can bring something.)

1:00 Gather in room 111 in the Capitol Annex to review the talking points for the day and take some time to develop your own.

1:30  Head out to the Capitol porch. (The side facing the Annex)

Until 4:00  We'll be at the HB 127 Yard Sale, trying to raise money for our shared priorities.

Please register if you plan on coming so we know what folks are bringing!
