This op-ed describes the impact of recent court rulings against the EPA's stepped up enforcement of water quality laws in Central Appalachian mining communities. Punchline: "...the economic realities of natural gas abundance and renewable technologies, as well as the scientific realities of climate change, will determine coal's (and surface mining's) future far more than anything the EPA does."
