Cari Moore and Appalachian Transition on WORT
KFTC member Cari Moore helped inform residents of Wisconsin and online listeners worldwide about the potential for clean energy in Appalachia and Kentucky earlier today as a guest on a WORT-FM public affairs radio talk show in Madison, Wisconsin.
Cari gave examples of how "coal is holding us back," and dispelled the myth that electricity from coal is cheap. She talked specifically about mountaintop removal and the loss of jobs in areas where coal is mined. "Mountaintop removal is threatening our economic future," she pointed out.
Callers were well-informed about the negative consequences of mining and burning coal – in both Kentucky and Wisconsin, where coal is burned – and the lost potential of not developing readily available alternative sources. A caller named Jennifer talked about the need to "get past coal" and take individual and collective action to develop and use more clean energy.
Cari also promoted the New Power Pledge and creating a better quality of life for all. "Let's stop talking about who loves coal the most and talk about what we're going to do for our future," Cari said. "We really have to transition now."
You can listen to the show here (it starts after the news).
Cari is the Knott County Steering Committee representative and a KFTC Canary Leader.
