Floyd County hosts Church of the Epiphany
On Saturday, Floyd County members Rick Handshoe and Beverly May hosted a group from Church of the Epiphany in Louisville. The group learned about mountaintop removal earlier this year when Father John Rausch spoke at their church and wanted not only to experience it firsthand but to hear stories of people living with the effects every day.
Beverly spoke to the group about recent health studies and her struggles to save Wilson Creek. Rick spoke about the poison water that flows past his home and introduced the group to KFTC's Community Science and Public Health project. Both spoke of their concerns for future generations of eastern Kentuckians and the need for a just and sustainable transition in the mountains.
Big thanks to Rick and Beverly for sharing their stories and to the folks from Epiphany for spending time with us on Saturday!
