Central Kentucky | Kentuckians For The Commonwealth

Chapter: Central Kentucky

The Central Kentucky chapter is one of the oldest chapters within KFTC. We are a diverse group of people who care about making our communities healthy and safe for all people. Our chapter members are interested in a range of issues, but currently we are working on educating folks about democracy through our voter empowerment work. We're also focusing on building economic, environmental and racial justice in Lexington and the Central Kentucky area. Please join us at our next chapter meeting or at one of our upcoming events. Meet other chapter members to learn about the exciting work we're doing and how you can be a part of it!

Recent Activities

Trans Awareness Week and Trans Day of Remembrance

Every year, during the week leading up to the Trans Day of Remembrance, people come together to particpate in Trans Awareness Week. This week is dedicated to raising the visibility of transgender people, and to talk about issues that members of the community often face. From homelessness, to poverty, discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodation, and even to violence, trans and gender nonconforming people are forced to live lives where systems of injustice overlap. The week is set aside from November 13 to November 19.

Unpacking the electricity rate increases for LG&E and KU

I am a woman. At home, at work, and on the campaign trail.

In a December article in the New York Times1, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s daughter, Jane, states, “My mother strongly believes there won’t be true equality until men take full participation in child care and other household tasks.” And, in both of the recent movies on her life, you see Justice Ginsberg’s husband doing just that: taking on more housework, cooking, and providing childcare thus allowing his wife the room to spend more time working outside their home.
