Chapter: Central Kentucky

The Central Kentucky chapter is one of the oldest chapters within KFTC. We are a diverse group of people who care about making our communities healthy and safe for all people. Our chapter members are interested in a range of issues, but currently we are working on educating folks about democracy through our voter empowerment work. We're also focusing on building economic, environmental and racial justice in Lexington and the Central Kentucky area. Please join us at our next chapter meeting or at one of our upcoming events. Help decide the future of Kentucky's tax system

Last Chance sign.jpgKentuckians deserve investments in good jobs, clean air and water, quality educations, and healthy, vibrant communities. This Kentucky is possible, but we need to reform our state tax system.

And this summer may well be our best opportunity in the last decade to push forward tax reforms that improve our quality of life. Right now, Kentucky's Blue Ribbon Commission on Tax Reform is getting ready to hold Public Meetings across the state. Everyday Kentuckians are invited to share their best ideas about needed state tax reforms--ideas that will shape the Commission's recommendations for the 2013 General Assembly. The first of these meetings is in Paducah on May 29.

Central Kentucky KFTC members encourage local officials to take a stand on voting rights

mtg. with steve kayThe Central Kentucky chapter has been making the rounds within the Lexington city council to talk to local officials about KFTC's restoration of voting rights for former felons campaign and to encourage them to publicly support voting rights for all people.

KFTC has been working very hard during the last several years within the general assembly to gain traction on HB70 - a bill that would automatically restore voting rights to non-violent offenders once they've served their time. Each year more progress has been made, but chapter members wanted something they could focus on locally and outside of the general assembly that could educate people about the need for this legislation if Kentucky can ever expect to have a healthy and working democracy.

Kentucky Tonight Congressional Debates

Bill Goodman on KET's Kentucky Tonight is holding a series of discussions with Congressional candidates to give viewers a chance to learn about the candidates and make a more informed decision on election day, Tuesday, May 22nd.  

The first debate was last week and included the 1st Congressional District Democratic candidates and 3rd Congressional District Democratic candidates, respectively.  A video of that program can be found here or by clicking on the image above. 

Tonight, the discussion will be between the Republicans in the 6th Congressional District and the program will air live at 8pm EST.
