Northern Kentucky | Kentuckians For The Commonwealth

Chapter: Northern Kentucky

If you believe that Northern Kentucky communities are best served by honoring diversity and promoting sustainability, then join the Northern Kentucky chapter of Kentuckians for the Commonwealth.

The chapter began in Northern Kentucky in 2010, and has been active working to build a more just and sustainable community. From concerts, to film series, to candidate forums, our chapter is always working to find ways to better engage and work within our community. We hope you can join us, and help build a better Kentucky.

Northern Kentucky Prepares to Rally In Support of Open & Inclusive Communities

March Madness doesn't apply only to basketball, it seems. We have seen an increase in ICE raids across the country, targeting undocumented persons whose only crime have been a search for a better life. We have seen an increased number of attacks on folks for the mere perception of being Muslim. And we have seen a that many would argue is illegal, immoral, and is a twist on President Trump's campaign promise of a Muslim ban. Our organization has made a commitment to stand against such injustice, and we need you to help us put our words into action.

KFTC's statement on immigrants, refugees and Muslims

We the people …

Kentuckians For The Commonwealth (KFTC) has a vision of a Kentucky where “discrimination is wiped out of our laws, habits and hearts.” While discrimination already hurts many members of our communities, the current state legislature and our national government are taking aim at some of our most vulnerable neighbors: immigrants, refugees and religious minorities, especially Muslims. As we always have, KFTC is standing up for the targets of discrimination and working hard toward wiping discrimination out of our laws, habits and hearts.

We voice our solidarity with immigrants, refugees and religious minorities who are coming under increased attack in this current political climate.

Solar in Kentucky: opportunities to learn and lend support

Kentuckians want more and better energy options, and we are especially interested in seeing more locally and community owned solar projects. That was the overwhelming message KFTC heard when we asked more than 1,000 people across the state to share their vision for Kentucky's energy future.

MaiFest Recap

The Northern Kentucky KFTC chapter recently helped celebrate Maifest with the community by having a table in Mainstrasse! The yearly weekend long festival in Covington is often well attended, features booths from organizations and businesses from throughout the community, carnival rides for families, and music on four different stages.

The festival this year was scheduled the weekend before Kentucky’s primary election, and members saw it as a great place to meet people from throughout the region. The chapter passed out information about www.kentuckyelection.org to more than 200 voters! Members were excited to point to the fact that all 10 candidates for Covington City Commission and 4 candidates for Mayor of Covington responded to our survey, and to talk about various campaigns KFTC is working on statewide.

Many of the members who helped table had joined in the past 6 months and were excited to be able to speak to people in the community about the work the organization is doing. From voting rights, to tax reform, to clean energy, and more, it was a great opportunity for members to feel more comfortable talking about our organization.

Despite an uncharacteristically cold weekend, the chapter was able to recruit 10 new members, register a few voters, and help remind people about the election. With the success of this festival, the chapter is looking forward to similar opportunities on the horizon.

KFTC members attend the Populism 2015 conference in Washington, D.C.

KFTC members Sarah Thomas, K.A. Owens, and Serena Owen in Washington D.C. for the Populism 2015 conference. Members from Jefferson County, Northern Kentucky, and Central Kentucky recently traveled to Washington D.C. to participate in Populism 2015, a conference organized by National People’s Action (NPA), Campaign for America’s Future, Alliance for a Just Society, and USAction. The conference was a gathering of grassroots organizers, activists, and leaders “committed to building a new, multiracial populist movement to transform our country.”
