Lexington loves mountains events were a hit!

The central Kentucky chapter held its third annual Lexington Loves Mountains week, kicking off on Friday night with an old time music showcase at Al's Bar featuring Clack Mountain String Band, Rich & the Po' Folk, The Skip Dippers and Sam Gleaves. A fun time was had by all. "Lexington Loves Mountains is like my reset button for the year. In whatever deep, dark winter gloom I may be in, nothing propels me out of it faster than two-stepping with my friends who are just as concerned about saving our land and our neighbors as I am," said KFTC member, Greg Capillo. "I enjoy going to events that support KFTC because I love the work they do. Any support I can give makes me feel like I'm helping Kentucky become a better place!" said KFTC member Nisa Bedwell.

The following morning, folks came out to the Morris Book Shop for a Legislative Letter Writing Party featuring authors Nikky Finney and Bianca Spriggs and the music of Warren Byrom. People were encouraged to stop by the KFTC table and write a letter to their state representative urging them to support the stream saver bill and the clean energy opportunity act. "It was such a pleasure to hear from such brilliant local artists in support of Lexington Loves Mountains. The music and poetry was emotive and stirring. I was challenged to take action and use my own voice to contact my legislators," said KFTC member, Annie Ormsby. "We have an opportunity of a lifetime here in Kentucky to ensure a cleaner, healthier future for our people. What is happening to our beloved mountains affects each one of us, whether we live near them or far away. I Love Mountains week gives us the opportunity to make a stand for our state, our people, and our future. We cannot afford to wait," said KFTC member Eric Scott Sutherland

Lexington Loves Mountains 2013 was a great success! The Lexington chapter packed Al's bar on Friday night, as well as Morris Book Shop on Saturday and overall raised $1,814 and recruited 25 new members!
