Book signing at Morris Book Shop, Lexington
University of Kentucky sociology professor Shannon Elizabeth Bell will sign her new book, "Our Roots Run Deep as Ironweed: Appalachian Women and the Fight for Environmental Justice."
Motivated by a deeply rooted sense of place and community, Appalachian women have long fought against the damaging effects of industrialization. In this collection of interviews, sociologist Shannon Elizabeth Bell presents the voices of twelve Central Appalachian women, environmental justice activists fighting against mountaintop removal mining and its devastating effects on public health, regional ecology, and community well-being. One of the chapters features KFTC member and former chairperson Teri Blanton.
All proceeds from this event will benefit Kentuckians For The Commonwealth. Thanks to author Shannon Bell and the Morris Bookshop for their good work and support for KFTC!
We look forward to seeing you from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Friday night!
