Help decide the future of Kentucky's tax system

Last Chance sign.jpgKentuckians deserve investments in good jobs, clean air and water, quality educations, and healthy, vibrant communities. This Kentucky is possible, but we need to reform our state tax system.

And this summer may well be our best opportunity in the last decade to push forward tax reforms that improve our quality of life. Right now, Kentucky's Blue Ribbon Commission on Tax Reform is getting ready to hold Public Meetings across the state. Everyday Kentuckians are invited to share their best ideas about needed state tax reforms--ideas that will shape the Commission's recommendations for the 2013 General Assembly. The first of these meetings is in Paducah on May 29.

Blue Ribbon Commission on Tax Reform meeting now...

This meeting isn't one of the public forums that will be happening across the state--those kick off on May 29 in Paducah--but it's the second meeting of the Blue Ribbon Tax Commission members. They've gathered to establish some shared knowledge about how taxes work, the history of tax changes in Kentucky, and to look more deeply at the principles that their recommendations must follow.

KFTC members from all over the state brought their well-loved books, a saxophone, a fiddle, several pieces of art, a walker, and even some dubious spring water from Floyd County to the Capitol today--all in the hopes of raising money for libraries, the arts, public health, and clean water protection.

Some good news came out of Frankfort yesterday! The so-called AT&T bill (first SB 135, erika phonethen SB 12) has been pulled from the Senate floor, and the sponsor and AT&T have confirmed that the bill is dead.

Take Action! Kentuckians deserve access to basic, affordable phone service.
