Tax and budget bill is signed into law

HB 144, which raises the cigarette tax .30 and adds a retail sales tax to alcohol, passed the Senate and was signed into law earlier today.  It's expected to generate about $52 million between April 1 and July 1, and nearly $159 million in 2009-10.

EITC: Families and Kids Need This Legislation

It has been described as the most effective anti-poverty program in the U.S.  So state Reps. Jim Wayne and Harry Moberly yesterday introduced legislation to create an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) in Kentucky.

It's long past time for legislators to take seriously Kentucky's significant and harmful structural revenue deficit. That's the message state Rep. Jim Wayne and KFTC members emphasized during a press conference this morning at the State Capitol.
