Take Action for Democracy!
Here in Kentucky, we do better together. If a friend or neighbor needs help, we lend a hand. And we all pitch in to make sure our communities have the things we need, like good schools, libraries, and parks.
But some elected leaders put their corporate donors first, and try to divide neighbor against neighbor. When they turn their backs on us, we choose to keep showing up for each other.
Together, we can elect leaders who will show up with us and for us – not just on election day, but every day. You can help by volunteering to talk to people in your community at their door and on the phone, and encouraging Kentuckians to vote.

Support Black Lung benefits for miners and their families
This September, a delegation of nearly 40 Appalachians from at least eight states – including eight KFTC members – are in Washington DC to meet with members of Congress and push for urgently needed legislation for a Just Transition for miners, their families and their communities.

Families Belong Together
What is happening now at the U.S. border – ripping families apart and incarcerating children in warehouses and cages – is immoral and deeply damaging to those families, to global human rights, and to our own souls. It goes against every value we hold as Kentuckians.

Join Kentuckians from across the state as we join with more than 30 other states in taking our message of racial, economic and environmental justice and a peace economy to our state capital.
Ask Governor Bevin to veto Youth Incarceration Bill
The 2018 General Assembly is mostly over, with just a few days left for the Governor to veto bills. Members and Kentuckians are processing, listening, and strategizing about what comes next. In the meantime, take this one last action.
Please call Governor Bevin and ask him to veto House Bill 169.
IMPORTANT: NO votes needed Friday on veto overrides

Please contact your legislator as soon as possible in any and all ways that you can. There are several ways to contact legislators:
1) Legislative Message Line: 800-372-7181. Leave a message for your representative and senator, and “for all Democrats.” The message line is open until 9 p.m. EDT tonight and opens at 7 a.m. Friday morning.
2) Call their offices directly at 502-564-8100.
3) Email them
MESSAGE: “Vote NO to override the vetoes on HB 366 and HB 200. The governor's vetoes are the legislature's opportunity to do the right thing. Scrap the budget, scrap the tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations, and start over with the aim of investing in Kentucky's future.”
Legislators reconvene at 10 a.m. Friday, so please call as soon as you can.

Can you raise your voice one more time during this General Assembly? Contact your legislators now and ask them to vote NO on the motions to override the vetoes of the budget bill and tax bill. Here’s why:
KFTC members work everyday for a vision that includes strong public schools, new jobs and clean energy, health care for all of us, a justice system that is just, and opportunities for young people. To reach that vision we need a tax system that is fair and moves Kentucky forward.
The Kentucky General Assembly passed legislation that is just the opposite of that vision. Besides a bad pension bill, they passed a budget (House Bill 200) that makes significant cuts to education (including zero funding for textbooks and other necessary school programs) and cuts to most other services across the board.
Kentucky deserves better than this. Kentuckians can do better than this.

KFTC works for an open, healthy democracy and a high quality of life for all people. Lawmakers in Frankfort are undermining these principles. Governor Matt Bevin and GOP leaders are dismantling public education, devaluing public work and workers, and undermining the intention of working together for the common good.
Monday will be a day of action, and we encourage everyone to show up. Public workers are rallying. We'll also be in Frankfort to respond to the budget that Republican leadership will release, possibly with regressive changes to our tax structure. And the anti-solar and the youth incarceration bills are likely to come up – all of which will bring great harm to our Commonwealth.
