Do you want the absolute best for your family and our community? So do we. The Kentucky River chapter of KFTC includes Perry County, Knott County, and Letcher County. If you live in this region, then we invite you to be part of our local KFTC chapter.

We are a diverse group of people – teachers, retired coal miners, students, unemployed, moms, grandparents and many more. We work together – as we have for many years – to protect our water and land, bring new energy and new jobs to our area, share our vision with elected officials and make sure our region is a safe place to call home for everyone.

Voter Empowerment update from Perry and Letcher counties

Dad registering to voteAs the election nears, KFTC members in the Perry and Letcher chapters have been tabling at local fall festivals to register voters. KFTC had a booth at the Hazard Black Gold Festival again this year and registered 25 voters over 2 days. Perry County Steering Committee Representative Katie Pirotina and Knott County member Fern Nafziger helped staff the table during Black Gold, enjoying the parade that passed right in front of our tables while we registered voters from throughout many eastern Kentucky counties.

Voter Registration - Hazard Community & Technical College Student Activities FairKFTC members from Perry and Letcher counties came together this week to register students at Hazard Community & Technical College to vote. We were invited to set up a KFTC voter registration booth at the HCTC Student Activities Fair on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Over the last month, chapters across the state gathered for their annual chapter meetings.  From Bowling Green to Harlan to northern Kentucky, members celebrated the last year of hard work in their communities and beyond, elected new chapter leadership, discussed KFTC's platform, and planned for the coming months.

Last night's marathon Public Input meeting marked the end of this important stage of the Blue Ribbon Tax Commission's process for recommending state tax reforms. Although a few good folks had to leave before they could deliver their statement – the meeting ran more than an hour over time – the call for progressive tax reforms and adequate revenue for health, education, and environmental protection and clean energy was loud and clear. Sixteen of the speakers lined up were KFTC members, some coming as concerned Kentuckians and some wearing the hat of an ally organization.
